Shortly after being featured in Forum of Insurance Lawyers Magazine, road traffic collision expert Gavin Dunn, was invited to present to FOIL Northern Ireland.
Gavin’s presentation ‘Forensic Collision Reconstruction: A Road Map’ discussed how to review, analyse, interpret, and present the objective evidence in a serious road traffic collision case, identifying some of the most important aspects of forensic collision reconstruction.
He detailed how factors such as the position of the car, weather conditions, road topography, pedestrian positions, and damage to the vehicle or road can help create a general picture of what caused the accident. He explained that investigators will often rely on photographs, videos, sketches, and statements from individuals to try and paint a picture of the collision, but how these are often of variable quality and open to human error, therefore CCTV is usually a pivotal piece of evidence in such investigations.
Instructing an RTC expert means more thorough and conclusive investigations can be carried out, not just on the vehicle and location, but including analysis of on-board data from airbags, infotainment, fleet tracking, and tachographs. Gavin is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer, whose expertise includes all types of road traffic collisions from pedestrians to HGVs. He is highly experienced in the forensic reconstruction of collisions from the scene through to the courtroom and has served a range of clients including solicitors, the police, and other public bodies.
