In rural areas a large number of houses, both small and large, rely on kerosene oil for heating.
Patrick will discuss the various ways in which it can escape into the environment, and what should be done to prevent these leaks. Once in the environment, the oil can pollute soil and water courses, leading to fines and large clean-up costs, as well as contaminating buildings, making them un-occupiable without expensive remediation work.
The presentation will also cover how best to mitigate the risk of leaks, and how this relies on good design, installation and maintenance of oil storage and supply systems.
