We are pleased to announce that, Dr Andrew Peplow, has joined our acoustics team as Principal Associate Consultant.
Based in our Cambridge office, Andrew brings over thirty years of experience in civil and environmental engineering and holds a degree in Mathematics from the University of Bath. He has a PhD specialising in computational mechanics applied to acoustic scattering from roadside noise barriers.
Throughout his career, Andrew has been involved in the understanding of computational dynamics, environmental noise, and vibration control. His early work on the Boundary Element Method (BEM) for acoustic and elastic wave propagation set the stage for contributions in the field. Andrew’s expertise has been further enriched through collaboration with institutions such as the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, the Technical University of Munich, and Aalborg University in Denmark. Supported by a Royal Academy of Engineering and EU Marie Curie grant, his joint research on the Waveguide Finite Method (WFE) and Exact FEM/BEM modelling has advanced the understanding of wave propagation and waveguide structures.
His extensive academic contributions include over 40 peer-reviewed articles, editorial roles for leading journals, and the organisation and chairing of sessions at major conferences on vibration, noise, and vibro-acoustics.
Andrew has applied his expertise to advise on and solve complex challenges in railway vibration, structural and building vibration prediction, and environmental noise control. He has been instructed as a technical expert for industries ranging from heavy plant operations to large-scale HVDC stations and wind farms. Andrew routinely undertakes specialist investigations in vibration and industrial noise, providing formal reports and presentations for both vibration and environmental noise consultancy.
His other experience includes:
- The assessment and prediction of railway vibration exposure for underground and surface trains.
- Indoor and outdoor sound power measurement and assessments.
- Wind farm noise assessment, prediction and advice.
- Noise exposure and regulation assessment from HVDC transformer stations.
- Prediction of noise reduction using porous and absorbing material for HVAC systems.
Andrew’s expertise expands and strengthens Hawkins’ Acoustic Consultancy service, and we are delighted to have him on board.
