Hawkins is delighted to announce that, Civil Engineer Dr Andrew Foster, has attained Fellowship of the Institution of Civil Engineers (FICE).

Fellowship is the highest grade of membership in the Institution of Civil Engineers and recognises a significant contribution made to the industry, and society, by its members.

Andrew was awarded his FICE for having undertaken fundamental and applied research that has substantially advanced the body of engineering knowledge. Some examples of his published works include:

The fellowship also recognises his role in the development and delivery of engineering education and training. Andrew was engaged in a broad range of teaching and supervision activities for several years in University College London and Manchester University. He introduced various new teaching approaches and innovative PhD scholarship programmes to develop the next generation of civil engineering researchers.

Andrew is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the Institution of Civil Engineers (FICE) and the Institution of Structural Engineers (MIStructE). He has experience working as a Design Approval Engineer on a range of offshore structures and installations. He has undertaken several different analysis approaches, including non-linear and dynamic, and worked across a wide range of international codes and standards. He is also experienced in performing structural assessments, producing concept designs, and developing repair solutions. Currently, Andrew investigates matters concerning building integrity. His principal focus is on structural design problems, but he also examines cases relating to defective construction, water ingress, workmanship and personal injury. He works on large-scale structures, as well as small-scale residential buildings.

Andrew recently wrote the article ‘Behaviour of Bolted Steel Connections During Fires’ where he explains how bolted connections can fail, and some of the options available to achieve better performance.

We would like to congratulate Andrew on his achievement.
