Hawkins was delighted to sponsor and present at this year’s ICIC – International Cargo Insurance Conference. Materials Expert and Chartered Engineer, Dr Sophie Parsons, presented ‘Like, Re-post, or Comment…How about just being a voyeur?’. Sophie discussed how social media posts related to cargo claims and uploaded to platforms such as LinkedIn, can be eye-catching and interesting, but also contentious at times. She questioned whether forensic experts should rise to these posts and engage in discussions, or simply stand back as a bystander.

Sophie explained the intricacies of managing live cargo cases and the impact that social media can have on the progress of a case, all within the remit of the expert’s Code of Conduct and duty to the Court. She provided an overview of the expert Code of Conduct and how this needs to be applied on social media, with examples of content and how it reflects on forensic experts.

Sophie was joined at the conference by our Birmingham Regional Manager, Dr Jake Irwin, who was available to respond to questions from delegates, at the Hawkins stand.
