It has been a busy few months for Hawkins and we have had the pleasure of attending several industry events across different continents. From the UK to Asia, our experts have been sponsoring, exhibiting, and presenting at various events across the globe.

Marine Insurance Asia

Dr Sophie Parsons began the season in Singapore, presenting ‘Liquefaction, From Instruction to Resolution – A Material Girl’s Point of View’ at this leading global marine insurance conference. Sophie’s presentation discussed how to get the best out of your expert in relation to the management of Group A cargoes, whilst ensuring the safety of lives at sea and adhering to the expert’s code of conduct.

Other presentations that took place at the event included managing IT in the maritime industry, and a particularly insightful talk about the mental health issues of mariners.

Sophie was joined by Regional Director, David Rose and Master Mariner, Stewart Horan.

Asian Claims Convention (AICLA)

Sophie continued her run of presentations by travelling to Bangkok to present on ‘The Art of Remote Inspection’. In this presentation, she discussed how a forensic investigator can participate in investigations remotely using the latest video conferencing technology. Sophie was accompanied by Hawkins experts David Rose, Yang Dang and Shimin Zhuang, who were delighted to meet up with many new and existing contacts, including Glyn Lloyd, president of AICLA and many others in the Marine industry.

CIArb Qatar Conference

Forensic Architect, Austen Smith has been busy in the Middle East. Just a few weeks after featuring in the CIArb Branch Newsletter, Austen attended the May CIArb Qatar Conference. Austen was delighted to reconnect with several clients within the region and take part in the branches inaugural event, with around 300 participants. It was great to catch up with Nigel White (White Consulting), Christian Merrett (CBBG Group Construction Expert Services) and Shady Ateem (InShield). The conference allowed CIArb members, arbitrators, and Qatar’s legal community to come together, with discussions on arbitration involving the recent Qatar World Cup construction projects.

Commercial Vehicle Show

Business Development Managers, Graeme Drysdale and Dr Andrew Moncrieff, have been attending numerous UK events including the Commercial Vehicle Show, one of the most established trade exhibitions for the transport sector. This was a fantastic opportunity to spend time with key industry stakeholders and Hawkins were delighted to exhibit for the first time, being joined by Mechanical Engineer James Kingham. We liaised with key contacts within the industry including various fleet managers and manufacturers at Zurich, Tesco, Royal Mail, Fleet Management Group and Lex Vehicle Leasing.

BIBA (British Insurance Broker’s Association)

In May, Graeme and Andrew attended BIBA, the largest insurance broking event in the UK. The event lived up to expectations with an array of speakers, each sharing how the insurance industry has continued to respond positively to the ever-changing political, environmental, and economic dynamics of the UK. Graeme and Andrew were joined by Hawkins’ regional managers Jonathan Emm and Dr Paul Lemon.

Attending these events have provided an ideal opportunity to not only share our own skills and knowledge, but to ensure that we keep close to emerging trends and new technologies that can be used to investigate the full array of incidents that Hawkins specialise in. As the event season gets well underway, Hawkins would like to extend a thank you to the organisers of these fantastic events and we look forward to the remaining upcoming events.
