We were delighted to welcome clients to Balls Brothers in London where Electrical Engineer, Ben Adams, hosted the first Power and Energy Seminar of 2025, again concentrating on the renewable sector.
Joined by colleagues, Simon Batt, Dr Nick Wright and Dr Amir Hajdaei, the event provided guests with a chance to re-establish connections with some of our Power and Energy team, and gave an insight into how our investigators approach failure investigations within the power and energy sector.
Ben began the evening with an introduction to Hawkins’ power and energy expertise before discussing Electrical Aspects of the Energy Transition. Differentiating between energy and power, Ben compared traditional power supplies with modern technologies, such as interconnectors, explaining how the electricity supply is changing, and what this could mean for the future.
Dr Nick Wright then took to the stage to present Anaerobic Digester Plants and Common Failure Modes. Nick provided an explanation of Anaerobic Digesters, including a review of their key parts and highlighted common failures that Hawkins’ investigators have investigated.
Mechanical Engineer, Simon Batt, gave the penultimate presentation, Gas Turbine Alternative Fuels, which included an overview of how gas turbines work, why we need them, their common issues and the future of gas turbines as we progress through the energy transition.
Materials Engineer, Dr Amir Hajdaei, concluded the presentations with The Storage and Transmission of Hydrogen Gas, discussing issues such as hydrogen embrittlement, how this is caused, and the materials that are susceptible to cracking as a result of it.
Guests then joined our team of experts for drinks and canapes, offering the chance to network.
Our team of investigators regularly present on topics showcasing their expertise. Get in touch if you would like our power and energy or any other team to present to your organisation or investigate the root cause of a failure.
