As part of our ongoing commitment to charitable causes and support for our local communities, Hawkins were proud to sponsor the Kidderminster Athletic Valkyries as they entered the U-10 Mercian League Cup final against the Catshill Lionesses.
On cup final day, the girls marched out onto the pitch in glorious sunshine, keen to showcase their footballing talents and determined to finish their first full season together in style.
As the first half began, it was tense. The Valkyries passed the ball around well, but their opponents set out their intentions with an early goal. The Valkyries fought back, and the girls smashed out some great football; strikes bouncing back off the post, one agonisingly cleared off the line and another off the crossbar. Despite their efforts, an equaliser remained elusive, and the opposition broke for only their second attack of the half and scored again as the half time whistle blew.
The second half began, as the majority of the first half, with the Valkyries keeping intense pressure on the opposition, but with a corner skimming back off the crossbar and several goal mouth scrambles, luck did not appear on their side. As the match ended 2-0 to Catshill, the Valkyries held their heads high, desperately unlucky not to get the ball in the back of the net and absolutely matching their opposition in open play and possession.
Coach Andy shared: “What a fantastic group! I am so proud, both in the way we play and the group of individuals we have. Thank you to Hawkins for sponsoring the match kit and congratulations to the whole squad today: Brooke, Harriette, Neve, Ruby, Daisy, Isla E, Isla D, Poppy, Ella, Issy and Olivia.”
