Hawkins are delighted to announce that Master Mariner, Captain Stewart Horan, is the latest Hawkins investigator to be featured in The Marine Insurer.
Stewart’s article A Technical Aspect of Sampling of Hydrocarbon Products details how sampling should be carried out on tanker vessels to ensure that the cargo being loaded is of suitable particular specifications and/or contractual requirements.
Stewart explains some of the technical aspects of sampling hydrocarbon products (such as petroleum, fuel, and oil) in tanks, different types of sampling methods used to obtain a representative composite sample of a tank for analysis and, discusses the trend of including the bottom sample.
Stewart has worked as a Marine Consultant since 1999, attending numerous incidents and providing advice on a wide range of marine matters including liquid and bulk cargoes, bunkers, container vessels, oil and chemical tankers, and bulk carriers. Stewart can provide expert advice on the handling and carriage of liquid and bulk cargoes under the applicable IMO Codes and recognised industry guidelines and standards.
